Getting closer

For those who read wend and our blog, you know that we are on a mission to make the greenest surfboard possible. Today I received a press release from a new company making bio-plastic fins. So if you are trying to do the same, besides making a board from wood or bamboo you have a few blank options like ice9 or homeblown who are using a bio based foam. Or you can go to EPS foams that you can recycle most of after the board is used up. Greenlight surf is making a bamboo fabric instead of fiberglass cloth and have bio fin boxes in the works. Thanks for including us in a good group of companies making strides to clean up surfboard porduction.
I do want to clarify one thing however. The refrence to EPS being recyclable is not quite accurate. It is true the EPS is recyclable on its own but the fact is clean PU is also recyclable and the truth is neither is recyclable once it is in the composite structure of a surfboard.
More EPS does get recycled and that is primarily due to the fact that it comes usually in rectangular shapes and therefore a lot is cut off while PU foam is blown in specific blank molds so much less PU foam is cut off during the shaping process.
